Patch Notes Retirement and Entire Compendium of the Patch notes
Posted by: Talona - 04-14-2019, 02:30 PM - Forum: Announcements & News - No Replies

The Staff has decided to retire the Patch Notes section of the forums. Our reasons for this are:

  1. We have been more consistently using the announcement threads to announce changes to rules, storyteller, mainstoryline, etc. The intended purpose if the Patch notes was to do this, without making announcements.
  2. The patch notes system is not user-friendly, and becomes unclear what each patch note entails
  3. The patch notes system is overshadowed by changes made through announcements and becomes out-dated
With all this being said, we intend to make sure that any changes we make, lore considerations we have, etc we will put in announcements as an easier, more user-friendly way to access up-to-date information in a clear and concise way that the Patch notes were not doing. Below you will find the complete and up-to-date information from the Patch notes section, the information is split into five categories of information being: Mainstoryline, Morphs/Morph Rules, Server Rules, System Changes, and Misc. Lore Notes

Mainstoryline
1. Dualboxing Announcement Regarding Characters in Events/Dungeons/Raids
https://wowfreedom-rp.com/f/Thread-Important-Dual-Boxing-and-You?highlight=Dual+Boxing+and+You

2.  Turning People Away in Raid vs. Forfeiting Loot
We have revised our policy with regards to denying entry to an event that is underway. Instead, if someone arrives more than halfway into the final boss they can still attend the raid but have to forfeit their loot, the killing blow, and any attendance rewards they may have been eligible.

3. Priority Rolls for Overtly Evil Chars of Evil Organizations
Overtly evil characters, or characters that come to events as spies for evil organizations may be given lower priority for items that are not directly related to those characters. Additionally, they will still need to seek DM discretion on if the event is appropriate for them to attend.

Morphs/Morph Rules
1. While these changes took place some time ago we do want to reflect on them
Eredar: All Eredar are under Tier 4, but it is still important to note the differences in the Eredar you may apply for.

Dragons: We have also added Dragons to Tier 4, and you do not need to be a pre-existing drake to be a Dragon; They are case by case applications.

2. Concerning Temporary Morphs
For temporary morphs, you may ask a GM in LFG or asking for the Staff in Discord, but remember to specify why you want it. If you want to morph into a Dragon to show that your players in your event are fighting a Dragon, then ask for the temporary morph from the Staff. You do NOT need to apply for a temporary morph. Alternatively you can apply for Storyteller to use these abilities.

3. Concerning Dragons
You can evolve into a Dragon, or apply for a Dragon separate to a drake, but ALL dragon applications are case by case.

4. Concerning ALL Non-Legion Aligned (even BOUND) Demons
All demons that intend to be Anti-Legion Aligned  will need to make a Tier 4 application IF you intend to actively oppose the Legion (Such as being a Champion of Azeroth; Defender of Life).

Demons who are bound may fight against the Legion but it must be against their will due to the master who bound them. If you wish a bound demon to be anti-legion aligned you are still required to make a tier 4.

5. Ticket System Mention Removal
Removed all mention of requiring to make a ticket as the ticket system does not work, and additionally GMs can add morphs to morph applicants when they are offline so long as the morph information was supplied.

6. Felsworn and Dire Orcs/Trolls
Felsworn have been moved to Tier 1 (Previously Tier 2), and now include Felblood Elves, and Fel Orcs.
Dire Orcs and Trolls have been consolidated to be Dire Orcs/Trolls

7. Botani Distinction in Tier List
Traditional Botani that follow the genesaur (and are seen more as antagonists) will be Tier 1
Independent/Good Aligned Botani will now require a Tier 2
WoD Tiers included on the Tier List and are denoted by (AU)

8. Sargerei:
Sargerei right now wouldn't be Eredar, they would be traitorous felsworn like Draenei, they will be allowed to be applied for once Auchindoun is done. There is no possibility of Sargerei being good or independent. They may become full Eredar in 6.2 when they drink the demon blood.  These Eredar wouldn't be allowed to be independent aligned either.

8.2 Sargerai Addendum
People can be Sargerai Infiltrator under the following Conditions:
-They must be CtS'd for.
-They can only be reveal themselves to be Sargerai after Auchindoun, meaning they can't do anything overtly nefarious until Auchindoun is done.
-They can't have absorbed or taken any Fel until Auchindoun as that would give away that they are infiltrator's for the Sargerai, it is much more likely they'd have to 'earn' the fel blood, and would possibly earn that once Auchindoun is done. At which point these characters would be felsworn Sargerai, before that point they would look like regular Draenei.
-If too many people apply for this, we will have to close the door on these infiltrator's been applied for, to maintain a fair equilibrium between heroes being in the Garrison and infiltrator's.
-If you plan to be a Sargerai Infiltrator you couldn't have information that impacts the main storyline or have information that has inner-workings within the Sargerai and the Shadow Council.

9. AU Arakkoa:
After being rescued from the Blood Maul Slag Mines The flightless AU Arakkoa may now be applied for. They would have needed to be slaves within the dungeon who recently escaped thanks to the heroes efforts. (At this point in time all Arakkoa may be applied for)

10. Update on Drakes
Drakes can be related to Aspects with the following understanding:
-This doesn't change anything to your character, you're not any better or stronger than any other applied drake.
-Any relationships with the aspects is extremely impersonal and they hold no sway with the Aspects.
-The only clutch you can not be a part of is Kalegos as he was only an aspect for half a year.

11. Dreadlords
Dreadlords are now open to be applied for under the current stipulations. This is due to the fact Auchindoun is complete.
-They can now be rped on Azeroth and Draenor
-They can rp in Legion bases and Legion space

12. Fel Lords
Fel Lord's have been put on the Morph Tier list and can now be applied for, they are being considered as Tier 3, and may be applied for, here on in.

Server Rules
1. New rule in the Freedom Rule Section
21.) Adult Situations - Here, on Freedom, the staff doesn't care what two consenting adults do in private chats. But keep it just like that, in a private party. Any adult themed RP (such as ERP) is strictly to be kept out of public channels. We have people who may not want to see it and those younger than 18. We ask you respect this and keep such roleplay in private parties

2. Rule Changes:
Rule 4.) Don't be intentionally rude. Tough-skin is required, but being rude on purpose still isn't cool.
Rule 16.) The exception to this rule is demons, elementals and similar NPCs that are not permanently killed when they die on the mortal plane. These NPCs will be treated on a case-by-case and you should let us know if you want to kill any of these with the understanding they can return at staff or story discretion
Rule 10.) We consolidated rule 10 with 10a and 10b to cut down on redundancy and adding an additional note.
Rule 11.) The Three Strike rule is an arcane and archaic rule that has been removed as it was redundant and not used often.

3. Rule Addition Regarding Pets
Player Character Death and Pet/Mount Death
a. Player Characters cannot be killed without their consent and permission, unless they are doing something where death is the only option. (Like doing something knowingly that is dangerous and stupid)

b. Pets/Mounts are to be treated the same as player characters in that they also cannot be killed without the player character's (owner of said pets/mounts) consent and permission.

4. Rule Addition
Rule 22.) Server-Wide we do emote-based PvP fights, which are known as "trust fights". We understand that some players do not prefer this method in which there are alternatives, with specific caveats:
a. Roll Fights In lieu of a trust fight, two players can deal out their PvP battle in a roll-fight, however, this must be consented and agreed upon by both parties. If one party does not want to roll fight, but both insist a fight needs to happen, then the fight must be a trust fight. We do not allow forcing any player to roll fight under any circumstances because roll fighting is largely dependent on RNG and generally has no basis in our role-play setting due to the constraints of being unable to apply advantages/disadvantages that one does in a classic D&D. We do not have such a system to support roll-fighting. So roll fighting must be consensual. If, a player feels uncomfortable with an emote-battle, but does not want to force a roll fight then:
b. Predetermined Outcome We recommend that the two parties discuss OOCly the outcomes of the fight that way everyone's best interest can be served. If there is still a level of unsureness about this option, then:
c. GM Moderator We encourage our players to seek out a GM to moderate the emote-battle for any abuse of power in the fight itself. If the battle is with a GM-player character, a player has the right to ask for a third-party GM/The Admin to moderate.

This is due to being asked what our rules are on PvP are, as well as player's rights with regards to it

Edit: This rule strictly applies to PvP RP outside of events. Events are DM-discretion on if roll fights are necessary or not. The only thing we require is that the DM makes it clear that the event is roll-fight only beforehand to the players getting involved.

System Changes (To Discord, Forums, Storyteller, or IG systems e.g. Black Market)

1. New sections of the Forums:

The Community Gatherings Section where you can use the section to connect with others, this includes streaming music with Plug DJ, D&D games you want to advertise for players to join, stream movies to watch, host game-nights, etc. This area is a great place to go when you want to take part with the community!

Art Gallery Section where you can use this section to post your personal art, whether its your commissions, things youve drawn, an art dump you want to share with people. Anything you want to share with the arts is great for this section!

2.  Bot Spam on forums and Discord
Make sure to report any bots advertising for Paragon/RPH, we have additionally removed some of the permanent links that were accessible to all.

3. Dynamic Storyteller
Lowered the player requirement for DST.2 to 3 people interested, excluding the DM
Clarified DST.5 making it clear showing what one has hosted must be done in storyteller section with progress reports

4. Guild Storyteller
Lowered the player requirement for GST.1 to 3 people interested, excluding the DM
Clarified GST.5 making it clear showing what one has hosted must be done in storyteller section with progress reports

5. Storyteller General Rules
Storyteller Forums and Progress Reports
A new example of the Progress Reports is included with clarification that the only information required for reports are completed events and the day they were hosted on.
Also elaborated the DSTs can run facilitation of social RP in their progress reports

6. Storyteller Information: Hosting Multiple Events in the Same Day
Clarifying that it is okay to have multiple ST events the same day as each other but that the staff encourages people to do so thoughtfully, with careful planning, and to communicate with fellow STs in the long run.

7. Storyteller Review Change
The time between reviews for storytellers has been increased to a month and a half rather than a single month.

8. Storyteller Rule Updates:
Invisible Morph Ruling: You are not allowed to use the invisible morph outside of your own events. It is not something to be given to other players, or added to other players outside of your events or in the mall in any regard. If this happens again where this morph is abused outside of ST events, it will not only result in the loss of ST for the personal offender, it will also result in the morph display being totally prohibited for all STs. The staff is extending a hand of trust towards you all, and we want to emphasize how serious this is by saying that abusing this morph will result in the loss of ST powers, and all STs will be prohibited from using it.

9. Storytellers Claiming Land With Banners
With regards with using banners to claim areas that may be used for future events, the staff is not disallowing its use but we definitely recommend that if it is used it should be for projects you intend to do in the near future, within a couple weeks or so. Otherwise, such as using it to claim lands for future events, or because you want to remember the land, we recommend not doing so, because claiming things with banners and leaving it does not guarantee it will remain in your hands and we prefer for people to use things as and when they need them.
That being said there is an alternative to the banners for some. If you are interested in a piece of land but unsure what to do with it, or you want to remember its location for a possible idea in the far future, or something, you can make a private teleport of the land, and port to it when sometimes comes to you, baring in mind the land may end up in use, but that goes for the banners as well.

10. Blackmarket System is Retired Per this announcement
https://wowfreedom-rp.com/f/Thread-Black-Market-System-Retiring-UPDATES

11. Custom NPC Requests; Custom Beast NPCs
Through the efforts of Bluelink, those staff members who are capable to make NPCs, can make any NPC race tameable by Hunters through a custom NPC.

For example, if you wanted a skeleton pet and want it to follow you around as a pet does for a hunt, it can be done through the creation of a custom npc. Staff members who wish to know how to make tameable npcs may find the pinned post under custom npc requests.

12. Forum Update
The Freedom Lore has been removed, as its purpose has been efficiently covered by the CTS section on the forums, and the QfS section in the Discord.

13. QFS Lore  inquiry policy
We'd like people to make sure they do some research regarding their lore question before asking them. In order for us to most accurately, promptly, and assuredly respond to questions, we need to be aware of how much about the topic you're aware of.

To this end, we'd like to ask everyone that, when applicable, please include a little bit about what you've found through your own research regarding the area of lore in question. We're not asking for a research paper, and definitely not anything near the level of research needed for a complex CtS inquiry, but just enough that we're not blindsided by further points that you might bring up. This will help us answer questions as best as possible.

14. QFS BFA Lore Inquiries
Players may now ask questions in QFS regarding BFA lore

Misc. Lore Notes
1. NPC Drake Companions
Going forward, npc drake companions will be rare without a very in-depth reason, so to acquire one will be through in-depth storylines, or otherwise. Additionally, npc drake companions cannot be brought to any events without express DM approval.

2. Dragonkin Ages
Like people, every dragon grows at a different rate. It really depends on the character, and it's a case by case basis. But, we would find it hard to believe that a dragonkin would still be a drake past 500 years. We mostly say it's up to personal experience so that our Whelp players don't end up needing to wait, like, 5 years to actually grow into a drake, but the point does still stand for drakes.

3. Dragon Ages
Dragon characters can be born up to 1000 years before the War of the Ancients.

4. Monk Wind Teleportation
Advanced monks that work for or with the Shado-pan may have the ability to learn a 'windstep', an ability that is similar to Blink or Shadowstep. It will most likely be tiring after continual use in combat, just like Shadowstep or Blink.

5. Developer Spellbook Updates
Everyone can now use Track Humanoids innately!

6. Reminder on Legion Lore with regards to Helya/Helheim
Any Vrykul Spirits/Kvaldir from Helheim are under a sway/curse of Helya that prevents them from talking about Helheim or revealing Helya in any regard.
This is due to the fact that the reveal of Helya and Helheim are generally supposed to be a big reveal and surprise.

7. Defined Distinction with Personal Dragonsworn and General Dragonsworn
Personal Dragonsworn are Dragonsworn who were bestowed their gifts and duties by a personal player character drake/dragon. These players serve and are attached to the personal player character drake/dragon and aid that character with their duties of the flight. A general Dragonsworn are those who helps the entire flight typically by way of group affiliation such as Cenarion Circle or the Timewalkers and their focus is the Dragonflight as a whole.

It is important to note that being a personal dragonsworn does not mean you do not have those core group affiliations, it simply means that you are a primary aid to a specific drake/dragon.

8.Transmogging Items
Precedence: We are allowing transmogging of gear, but at this time we are still not allowing the transmogging of weapons.

Note: Transmog cannot be used to disguise heavy armor as cloth or vice versa ICly. (In example: If you're wearing cloth gloves, you cant say they are transmogged to look like cloth gloves but when you punch someone you punched them very hard because its actually plate.)

9. Lore Update on Demons vs. Alternate Selves
The lore implies because Demons souls are linked to the Nether that they transcend space timelines.

Because the npc: Socrethar/Othaar It is possible that a demon could have an Alternate self if they became a demon in recent history (within the last couple decades or so). So their past history would still exist but the longer they are a demon the more they transcend time. We will be coming out with an announcement on this in the coming weeks!

10. Different Races + Paladins
We are allowing Forsaken to be able to be Paladins
We are also allowing for the possibility of Orc Paladins

Note: For any of the above races or non-traditional Paladin races, please make a CTS if you are looking into such characters.

11. Demons in Pandaria
Demons can now go into Pandaria. It's important to note Pandarens wouldn’t react very well to seeing a demon going around Pandaria, so be mindful and utilize disguises in the open. There is no risk of summoning any Sha unless there is an extreme pull of power and emotion.

12. Monk Multiclassing Guide
We have come out with a working guide on the classes that are open to be multi-classed with monks. We have also included the classes that cannot, and a general reason why. We will also be expanding this guide to include certain RPG classes overtime. However, if you are interested in knowing how/if your RPG class could multi-class with a monk please make a CTS so we can help!

https://wowfreedom-rp.com/f/Thread-Monks-and-Multiclassing

13. Challenge Mode Weapon Update:
The Staff is allowing players to use the challenge mode weapons on the basis that:
These weapons are to be CTS'd for as custom items
They need some sort of questline to obtain as they are rather unique.
We are treating them as semi-significant/minor potential lore items
There are some challenge mode that are not listed as they will be potential artifacts/loot for future events in WoD, but the ones listed below are now open for CTS:

Claws of Creation
Sunblade
Greatstaff of Infinite Knowledge
Living Longbow
Elemental Crescent
Bloodmaw Gargoyle
Arcana Shard Spire
Tesseract Timepiece

14. Draenor Native Clarifications:
Native Draenor Orcs can be played in the approved zones (Frostfire/Shadowmoon) but those Orcs who are of clans a part of the Iron Horde will have to be exiles of their original clans. Any Iron Horde Native cannot be allowed until Gorgrond for when they are first seen (With the exception of Thunderlord and Shadowmoon that are in the Iron Horde). (All other clans can be allowed at this point in time of WoD)

15. Priestess of the Moon discipline priest tree update
Priestess of the Moon can be discipline priests, they'd learn spells like psychic scream as defensive techniques. Spells such as Shadowfiend and Shadowmend would not be taught, and they would need to learn those spells with a teacher of another race or on their own. This may be frowned upon in Kaldorei society, but it wouldn't make them a pariah.

16. Rping in locked zones and player houses
Any homes or villages spawned in locked zones will not be allowed to be rped in, until the zones themselves are unlocked. This includes but is not limited to quiet secluded areas, or island homes off of the coasts or areas on the fringes to other areas. If confused, about when a zone is unlocked it is generally only unlocked when the main-story goes to those areas.

17. Wildhammer Druids
As per the day's meeting, Wildhammer Dwarves are no longer required to submit a CtS thread to roll characters as Druids. The effective level of power, methodology and expertise of a starting Druid of Wildhammer origin should be treated as and be compared to the Gilnean Harvest Witches.

18. Blood Elves can now start transitioning into having Golden Eyes
This cannot be represented in game as of yet but can be stated via TRP etc. This transition will come more easily for light users, and will be impossible for Warlocks and Shadow Priests (And Demon Hunters, Death Knights, etc. Use Common Sense.) This will not be possible for High Elves, nor can Blood Elves revert to blue eyes.

19. Languages and Dialects
Kingdoms speak common, not any other dialects - with the exception of Gilneans which have a British accent. Players can use different dialects and languages however, as long as they say that it’s more localized and not widespread throughout the entire kingdom.

  Staff App changes
Posted by: zackaroth - 01-22-2019, 12:38 AM - Forum: Announcements & News - No Replies

Hey guys, unfortunately, it seems our Dynamic staff app idea did not pan out so well. As I said in the thread, the test would last either until the start of 2019 or till March 2019. Because of only one application however, we have decided to shut this system down and revert back to the original system.Which is us opening up staff apps when we feel we need more staff.

Right now, Staff Apps are open from January 21st to Feb 10th

But this is not all. The staff itself has gotten together and discussed what we feel we expect from new staff members based on our past experiences in doing this job. Below you find a comprehensive list of what we not only expect from new staff but ALL staff.

1. Strong Teamwork: Despite what people may think, we do not make decisions on our own. The staff discusses how answer player concerns, lore issues, loot, and even item effects to ensure as many views as possible are seen so we can craft the best possible answer to give the player. People who want to join the staff must be comfortable working in a team and discussing things with staff without letting their personal feelings get involved.

2. The staff is a position of service: Those who join the staff must understand that being on the staff is not a privileged position. Its not there for people to use to uplift themselves or their friends. If your own the staff your working the betterment of everyone on Freedom, which means sometimes you'll have to make hard decisions that may effect you negatively but in the long run be better for the server.

3. Work Ethic: We need people who are dedicated to the staff and when willing to do something, will do it.

4. Willingness to try: Before we used to break down staff members somewhat. Those who could do events, those who could handle the more administrative stuff and everyone in between. Well we can't really do that any more. With Legion approach closer and closer, I can't handle all the story on my own. Hosting events, creating loot, acting as a lore character are all very daunting things at first but it gets eaiser over time if your willing to learn. That's what the staff needs. I don't need event runners who can dm for 40 people. But I do need people who are not afraid to dip their feet water and give the story hosting side of Freedom a try. I won't ever burdern any of staff with something I think that can't handle or won't offer to help when you need it but first you need to give it a shot.

5. Sharing your thoughts: One of the most important things for a staff member and something I personally expect greatly, is the ability to share your thoughts on the situation. I'm not looking for yes men to agree with me every step of the way. I'm asking for combative or argumentative people, but I am asking people who can reasonably debate things and share their concerns and ideas. People who can constructively get their points across and give ideas when needed.

I hope people who are interested read this over and apply with these points in mind. I look forward to finding new staff members as Freedom makes its way forward this year.

Hello Freedom!

Its been an interesting four years since I had a fit of madness and decided to apply for GM, I definitely could not of predicted how far we've come, and how both the server and the community has changed over time. Unfortunately, one of these changes is my stepping down from the Staff. This is owing to my IRL circumstances and has in some ways been a long time coming, as my ability to commit and to perform has been on the decline due to factors beyond control. I have nonetheless got a lot of enjoyment and fulfillment through working for and with this community I first joined in 2010, and then stepped up in 2014, and I wish it well going forward on the march towards Legion. I do not intend to leave Freedom altogether, but I shall likely be taking a bit of a break for a while as I acclimatize to not having absolute power at my whim.

Thank you to the rest of the Staff for keeping me mostly sane, and thank you to everyone for the good times.

A New System of Freedom for Freedom
Posted by: peterclark26 - 10-28-2018, 03:53 PM - Forum: Announcements & News - No Replies

Hey Freedom, this is going to be a major announcement, and we recommend reading it fully and carefully.

With the Holiday Break starting now, the Staff has a little more time to dedicate to not frantically trying to stop everything setting on fire. As a product of that, we are considering a few changes we could make to potentially make it easier on people to RP more spontaneously and with less restrictions.

We’ve decided to start with a trial of the most liberal system we are considering. What this entails, simply put, is raising the bar considerably on what needs a CtS/staff approval. We’ll go into more depth of what does still require staff approval later, but to summarise, unless specifically told by the staff that you should do otherwise, nobody will be expected to make a CtS for storylines that don’t have major lore implications, for loot that isn’t major and for character/class concepts that aren’t entirely outlandish.

This does mean we are placing a great deal of trust in you, the playerbase, to moderate yourselves and not use this as an opportunity to go absolutely wild. The lore is still the lore, and common sense is still common sense. If individuals abuse this trust we are giving to do things that are unacceptable, the staff will step in to potentially punish those responsible, retcon the situation, and remove the culprit from this new system - effectively blacklisting them so they have to gain approval for everything the current system would require. It would be messy and unpleasant for you and for us. If there is a great deal of trouble as a result of this trial, then the trial can be ended at any time and we may consider other options. Obviously, we want to be able to trust you all, and ideally this will make everyone’s life easier and happier, but it does put a great emphasis on individual responsibility. If you are unsure if what you’re doing is crossing the line, then you should definitely consult with us beforehand.

With that in mind, we will go into more depth on what does cross the line now. We reserve the right to amend this list, and it should be treated as much as a guideline as a strict ruleset. Just because something isn’t listed, doesn’t mean it's free game if common sense says it's dodgy.

You should still look for staff approval if the RP you wish to run includes:
-Major lore implications - Anything involving the Titans, Naaru, the Emerald Dream, directly related to the Old Gods, defecting to another faction etc.
-Major lore characters - Faction leaders, Leading/High-ranked figures in major organisations and otherwise ‘very important’ individuals/entities (Celestials, Naaru, Wild Gods, Loa, Titanic Constructs, Elemental Lords etc.)
-Major Custom lore - Making up that the barkeeper at Goldshire knows your character isn’t a big deal. Inventing a whole new kind of magic, that you’re the leader of a major military, civil or religious organisation, that you’re the descendant of Azshara, or altering existing lore in a significant way (An existing settlement changing ownership, altering the overall status quo in a zone, destroying the entirety of x) is a big deal.
-Canonical NPCs and Quests - ‘Rares’, Retail Questlines, World Bosses. As before, these just need to be claimed via CtS, you don’t need to give a plan for how you’ll do them, but you do need to claim them so we can mark them off.
-Structures or changes to the in-game world that are intended to be permanent (Bases, camps, houses) and/or aren’t ordinarily present at the location (It's fine to spawn saberon in a saberon camp without asking. It's not fine to spawn a permanent occupying guard garrison in the same saberon camp without mentioning it) If we find a build in the world that we weren’t informed about and is older than a few days, we will be investigating, and action may be taken depending on the circumstances.
-Major Promotions - Getting a major officer rank in a canon organisation (Alliance, Horde, Cenarions, Crusade etc.), becoming a recognised Archmage, Archdruid, High Divinist, Champion of x, etc.
-Major Loot - This is a harder one to define as the line is highly blurred. As it stands this is already a highly blurred area. Characters are already able to create items if they have the skill in the right profession ICly, and players can already hand out mundane and more minor magic items without permission. What this change means is that the bar is higher. What it doesn’t mean is that you should now hand out loot like candy, just because you can. If we see a flood of loot, or unreasonable effects, we will be intervening very rapidly.
To try to frame the context, before you could hand out a flaming sword as loot without saying anything. Now it could also shoot fireballs, or cover you in a cloak of immolation, or give you resistance to fire as well. But it couldn’t create a massive firestorm, or make you immune to all fire. Anything on the level of a lore item or a mid-upper tier Raid item is still application level.
Also consider part of the reason the staff reviews loot is because oftentimes people are not experienced in writing loot that is clear, concise and fits the medium. You should still consider submitting your loot for review if you aren’t confident in its structure, or you think it might be ‘too powerful’. As always, the counter-attack system is off-limits unless otherwise stated.

For Storytellers, this greater freedom does of course also apply to you guys. But, as you have the powers to more greatly affect the world, we will be expecting to be able to understand at least to a basic level what you’re doing through your Storyteller Report. That does mean you might need to add a little more detail than you’re currently doing if you’ve been on the more lax side. ‘Did an event this day’ might not be good enough anymore.

In Closing, we will re-emphasise that this is an exercise in trust. Please do not abuse it. This is us giving people more liberties, If you do walk the line and fall foul, you will thereafter have to work on the same system we’ve always used. Do not complain if you have this new freedom rescinded. If you find anything about this announcement unclear or ambiguous, ask. If you aren’t sure if something is kosher, ask. If you’re newer and haven’t got a feel for what’s normal or acceptable, err on caution and ask. If you’re a returning player and have a history with us or aren’t sure how much things have changed, ask. It doesn’t necessarily have to be a giant formal CtS, but talk to us. This will work much better if we keep communication open between you, the playerbase, and we the staff.

  Morphs and Legion Artifacts
Posted by: zackaroth - 07-29-2018, 05:24 PM - Forum: Announcements & News - No Replies

Hey guys, this announcement is with concern to morphs and their compatibility with artifacts. We have given leeway when it comes to morph class combinations in the past but we feel it would be irresponsible not to post this for the general population of players to see. To put it plainly, more extreme morphs will be put under more scrutiny when it comes to receiving artifacts over regular player characters.

For example, we will not be allowing feral worgen to go for any of the monk artifacts, and we would not allow demons or anything of the sort to go for the Warlock artifacts. These two examples come from different reasoning, the first being that the items in question and morphs would be incompatible. The second example whilst compatible would not make much sense on an IC level. Why would the class halls trust a demon to carry an artifact when they could so easily turn and use it against the people of the world.

Morphs we are more likely to accept would be something akin to Arakkoa receiving the shadow priest artifact, or a Vrykul receiving Warswords of the Valarjar and Scale of the Earth Warder, not only are they compatible and have lore to back up why they would fit the artifact, it would also make sense on a cultural level why they would go for such an item. For those worried about not getting any artifact at all on a morph character, keep in mind we will be allowing custom artifacts as well as ascending some lore items to Artifact Status.

If you have any concerns with your characters compatibility with an Artifact we would advise you consider if the morph in question might be outlandish for the item, if you are still unsure we recommend making a CtS. It would be unfair for you to main a character throughout the rest of WoD hoping to be considered for an artifact only to be told only to be told you weren't eligible.

  Villains in the Main Events

Villains in the Main Events

Hey guys, this thread is being set to formalize the set of rules people who are interested in bringing villains to the main event storyline. I will be listing them off numerically to make it easier to read and digest. If you have any questions please don't be afraid to ask.

1. Villain Characters will be able to attend some of the Main Storyline events, acting as secondary antagonists to whatever threat the heroes are facing that day. The Villain Characters must be thematically appropriate to the enemy being fought(Demons for Legion events, Orcs for Iron Horde etc)

2. Villain characters will be told if an event is appropriate for them to attend at the start of the week of the event. The DM for that event will let those people know what the general plan is, where they will show up, when they should retreat and any other special information.

3. Villain Characters will get their own separate raid. If the player is also attending on another Hero character they are free to drop out for the duration of the fight. You will not lose your place in the raid if you choose to do this nor miss out on loot if this is the final boss.

4. Villain characters AND Hero characters should use common sense and play fair when fighting each other. Capitalize who you are attacking, do not god mod and be sure to take some hits every now and again. You are not trying to win, just trying to have fun.

5. Villain Characters should not attack players that are currently in the group making the raid emote. They should also begin to cease attacks on players about to go and change focus to others.

6. Villain Characters must remember THEY CANNOT change the course of a Main Storyline event. If the boss or force is dictated to lose that they are fighting with, that cannot be changed.

7. Neither Villain nor Hero character can kill each other without consent.

8. Hero Players who do not wish to fight Villain Players between turns should make it clear and Villain players should respect that. Hero Players should use TRP to their advantage and put down if they are Open to PVP or Not Open to PVP.

As always, these rules are subject to change and addition. Since this is a new system we will adjust based on our future experiences.

Main Event Villain Morph

Main Event Villain morphs are temporary morphs players can apply for if they wish to make disposal or main event only villains that would require a morph application to play otherwise. Be warned however: These characters are not true morphs. They cannot be roleplayed outside of the main events. Again, THESE CHARACTERS ARE ONLY FOR THE MAIN EVENTS THAT WILL ALLOW VILLAIN PLAYERS TO ATTEND. They should not be roleplayed anywhere else. If the staff find out you are using such a character you will lose your privilege at playing said character and may face other disciplinary action. If you wish to turn a Main Event Villain Morph into a regular morph you must follow the normal procedure to do so. If you already have an approved regular morph that is a Villain Character that can attend the event you do not need to fill this out.

These morph includes things anything that would require a morph application.

To get a Main Event Villain Morph fill this out and make a CTS.

Character Name:
Race:
Morph ID:
Morph Name:
Why the Character wants to attend the events(Does not need to be overtly long but the staff may ask for more information if we feel it doesn’t fit):

A New type of Counter Attack: Opposed Group Roll

During the course of event, normally a dungeon or raid, a Boss may initiate a group counter attack roll. The boss will then ask for help and if available, the villain characters may assist him/her in the roll. For example:

Hero Players A, B and C are targeted by the Boss for a group counter attack. He calls out to Villain Players D and E to aid him. The Hero Players roll out of 33 as do the Boss and Villain Players. The Highest roll wins and the winners get a free shot at the three losers. The attacks to the players, Hero or Villain, should not be killing blows or attacks that would mutilate or heavily disable the player unless they have permission to do so.

Generally the DM for that week will let the Villain knows if there will be an opposed group counter attack roll, see who is interested, let them know what the attack will be so the players can plan, and give them a heads up a turn before its used. The winner should divide their attacks equally, rather than focusing on one person.

  Main Event Etiquette
Posted by: zackaroth - 07-18-2018, 04:31 PM - Forum: Announcements & News - No Replies

Hey guys, I'm making this announcement as a way to help improve the main event situation a bit. As has been noted by players and and staff alike, events have seemingly gotten longer while we have been on Draenor and it is causing some frustration among people. So I'm going to be some posting some new decisions the staff has come up with in a way to try and make events more manageable and less time consuming.

Before I begin, as the main event runner for the main storyline, the optimal event time seems to be between 3-4 hours, with anything beyond that becoming very tedious. Now obviously this doesn't count dungeons, raids or extremely lore heavy events. Those events will be given the time they are needed. But those are not the vast majority of events. Instead, main events usually consist of the build up to said events. While important in their own regard, they shouldn't be insanely long.

Emote turn time and AFKing during events

There has been an issue recently with people AFKing or not paying attention during events. One issue that has cropped up is people missing their turns because they were away at the time. This has never been a general rule on Freedom, rather a guideline, that the groups emote turn should only be at max 5 minutes long. We haven't really strayed past this limit but it begs being mentioned that it should only take 5 minutes for everyone to post their replies to allow the DM to respond. If you don't have your emote out by that time and the DM responds, you have missed your opportunity. Its solely up to the DM at the time if they want to respond to your emote if you post it after the time is up.

However, this is a much bigger issue. People not paying attention or afking without saying anything when targeted for counter attacks. When targeted for counter attacks you have two options, roll or dodge the attack(unless under special circumstances). But more and more I've noticed I have targeted people who are not paying attention or have afked without saying to anyone and thus it drags the event. I'm not looking for an immediate response but from now please try to respond within the first 30 seconds or so of being targeted. If no response is given you will skipped, someone else chosen and you risk losing on other opportunities for counters during events if it becomes a noticeable habit.

I'm not saying everyone has to give the event 100% of their attention. I just ask people be aware and keep an eye on it. Be mindful when a group turn is ending and a counter attack could be coming up. If it helps, the normal flow of things is: AoE/Special Attack first turn, Counter Attack ability second turn. Obviously that's the normal state of things and could change depending on the event and boss. If you do have to go AFK please let the raid know and do /afk so the DM of the event can at least be aware you are gone for the moment.

Dual Boxing

Recently we have seen an upsurge in dual boxing for events. While it is good players have a chance to progress two characters at the same time...it is the second major cause of why events have become so long despite efforts to shorten them. Dual Boxing artificially enhances the raid size and adds groups that would not normally exist, thus lengthening the event due to extra emotes and responses. It also, some saying unfairly, gives some players to emote twice per round while non dual boxers can only emote once.

I don't want to ban dual boxing outright. I don't believe that is fair after letting it happen after so long. But I do believe it’s an issue that needs to be addressed. Your characters do not need to attend every single event. If your worried about missing the opportunity for something or losing out, don't be. There is nothing wrong for taking a character out of the event chain for an event or two to play another. It won't be held against you for items such as the rings or artifacts. We do care about activity but we also understand not everyone wants to play the same character 50 events in a row.

In any case, we are going to be adding some new rules to dual boxing.

When we start the event invites, I will invite everyone's main character first to to get a handle on how big an event will be. If the raid reaches 25 unique players(5 full groups), then I will not allow dual boxing for the event.

If the raid doesn't reach 5 full     groups by the time we are 5 mins out from the event, I will then call for all dual boxers to whisper me for invite. There will be no limit at that point.

Now the first part of this ruling will NOT effect major lore events, dungeons or raids. Those will go on as they have been. This ruling will also only be effective for WoD. Legion may have a different ruling or revert back to the way we did things before. This is because it is very likely we will have people who have two characters in different order halls with artifacts.

Wink Harrassment and Bullying
Posted by: TheDrunkCorgi - 07-01-2018, 10:01 PM - Forum: Announcements & News - No Replies

Harassment and Bullying

Here on Freedom we are all here to have fun, and enjoy ourselves, roleplaying is a hobby we are passionate about. However as of late we have seen evidence of harassment and bullying occurring on the server; this is unacceptable and cannot continue. Do not impose upon others to the point they feel uncomfortable or do not feel welcome in an rp or on the server as a whole.

Harassment is characterized by:

  • Making threats and unwanted sexual remarks
  • Trolling with the intent to provoke and offend targeted persons or people
  • Denigration (Posting/spreading of harmful rumors and falsehoods to damage reputation and friendships)
  • Exclusion (intentionally and cruelly excluding someone from RP situations that is public.)
  • Any harmful, repeated behavior that is done with the intent to harm someone else.

If you see someone bullying or harassing someone, either verbally, emotionally or through trying to discredit another's character, we ask that you  approach the Staff with logs, so that the staff can investigate as soon as possible. This sort of behavior is something which none of us want on the server; this is a hobby we're here to enjoy, not to attack one another.

ERP, Consent, and Age of Consent
Posted by: yakobthemoose - 06-27-2018, 05:23 PM - Forum: Announcements & News - No Replies

ERP, Age, and Consent

Though our server is decidedly not an ERP server, we are aware that it happens and are fine with it as long as it is between consenting adults and done in private. However, due to staff-held beliefs and recent rulings in the US (where the server is hosted), we must make some of our stances on sexual conduct in RP explicitly stated.

Age of Consent: First and foremost, any and all ERP that happens must be done between consenting adults. There have been and are currently minors on the server, and in no way will we facilitate any sexual activity with them. To this end, we will make it explicitly clear that ERP with individuals under the age of 18 is expressly forbidden, and should be discover that it has been happening on the server, both individuals involved will be immediately and permanently banned without a chance for appeal. What you do in private is your business, but it will not happen on the server or any public channels relating to the server, including the forums and any guild discords. Guild leaders who own a discord have an onus on them to make sure it does not happen. Any and all NSFW content posted there should be restricted to NSFW channels with an opt-in option.

Sexually illicit RP in public: There  is, of course, a grey area that exists where RP is sexually suggestive, but not expressly ERP. An off-remark that is suggestive is fine, but if it enters the territory of using explicit language, then it crosses the line. This should not ever be done in public RP or in the mall, and once again, not done in the presence of anyone under 18. Additionally, it should never be impressed upon someone that is unwilling to participate with it, which brings us to the next point.

Consent: Consent is one of the most important aspects of this. Consent is not achieved if one constantly denies sexual advances and eventually caves in. This is sexual harassment, and will not be tolerated on this server in any capacity. If you are a victim of sexual harassment on the server, please do not hesitate to report it. Sexual Harassment carries a punishment of a permanent ban without appeal.

If you have questions or concerns about Consent, Age of Consent, or adult content on the server, please reach out to us.

  Children in the Main Story
Posted by: peterclark26 - 06-11-2018, 02:22 PM - Forum: Announcements & News - No Replies

Hello everyone,

A minor announcement that going forward we will not be accepting any new characters under the age of 16 in the main story. This applies to all conventionally aging races from Orcs to Draenei. We do not feel it appropriate for characters without physical or emotional maturity to be allowed into combat in a warzone, and while we recognise there is an argument to be made for races like Orcs and Trolls, we have decided a universal guideline for conventional races is more fitting.

This will not apply retroactively to those characters we have already allowed to attend the main story previously, however we will note that all characters participating in the main story are expected to show a baseline maturity, and the Commanders do reserve the right to remove a character from the frontline if they are deemed not capable of that.
