Did you name the pet, (if; what was his name), did you cast any spell and notice the problem, was the pet punted, had .npc follow been used on it, was it a newly tamed pet or the default one, did you train it or give any talents related to beast mastery?
Is it also possible you right click and dismissed the pet or possibly used a spell to dismiss it?
