The Night Warrior. One of the most feared and mythologized powers in all of Night Elf culture. It is said the very anger and power of Elune filters through those that can contain her power. The Night Warrior has not been seen for thousands of years and its only last known appearance was during the time the Night Elves fought the Zandalari for control of Kalimdor. But with the destruction of their home and the people enraged for the Horde’s crimes against them, the Night Warrior has been reborn.
The Night Warrior Ritual can only be done and empower pure Night Elves. While other races do worship Elune, only Night Elves have that intimate and innate connection with her to survive her power being granted to them. In terms of magic, the Night Warrior is magically neutral. Instead of granting its wielder a new type of magic used, it instead enhances immensely what a Night Elf can do. As such even Death Knight elves can undergo the ritual. Demon Hunter NIght Elves, however, cannot. Already infused by fel energies and having the heart of a demon, it’s believed the ritual’s powers no longer see Demon Hunters as true Night Elves and that any who try will be killed. Dragon Blooded Night Elves are not considered true half elves by the Ritual’s Standards and can become Night Warriors. The Ritual can also act as a catalyst for Red and Green Night Elf Dragon Blooded to transform.
Worgen, be they human or Night Elf, can also become Night Warriors. However there are two conditions, the second which will be discussed below. First, the Worgen MUST have passed the Ritual of Balance(or something similar). They must have control over both forms. If not, the Night Warrior transformation may drive them insane due to the sheer power and anger it produces.
Night Elf players can become Night Warriors during or after In Darkest Night main event. They will be allowed to have the Black Eyes customization option and be considered a Night Warrior. Players who choose to become a Night Warrior after the main event should make a CTS. This is NOT for approval and you do not even have to wait for a GM to respond. Rather this is for record keeping for us.
Those who take on the Night Warrior’s power are changed. They can become more aggressive, quick to anger, and emotionally volatile. They can become single minded in their mission to protect their people and bring justice to those who have harmed the Night Elves. It takes immense mental discipline and focus to keep the power of Elune from overwhelming themselves.
Players who are Night Warriors have increased stamina, power reserves, strength and are generally enhanced greatly. During their turn or when targeted by a counter attack, threshold roll or group counter, players can call upon the power of the Night Warrior. They gain a +10 to all counters, group counters and threshold rolls FOR THE REST OF THE EVENT. This power also has no cooldown and can be used repeatedly once per player turn, counter attack, group counter, or threshold roll.
This bonus fades at the end of each event but the cost of it does not. A player who is a Night Warrior must put a 0/100 counter in their TRP. Every time they use Power of the Night, they must add +10 to that counter. The counter represents how strong a player’s passive power is(normal emotes and etc) but also how close they are to becoming completely engulfed by Elune’s power. A counter at or above 30, increases the chances a player's power and abilities will start lashing out at allies as well. At 30 it’s a low chance but increases immensely with each level.(This is mostly up to DM discretion on how this plays out). A player who reaches 100/100, DIES AND CANNOT BE RESURRECTED BY ANY MEANS.
For Worgens, that counter is halved. Because of the volatile nature of the Worgen Form mixed with the Night Warrior's power, their counter is only 0/50. Worgen also don’t go as startling of a change as Night Elves do. While some may gain black eyes(Worgen players can use the glowing purple or gold eyes if desired), others may not gain anything at all. The real change is mental as the worgen’s enhanced power has to be reigned in from over taking the form.
The counter does NOT reset after every event. Instead the counter resets every Wednesday at 12 am, meaning a Night Warrior must bear that power and its risks for days. The counter hits 0 if a player only has up to 20/100 but anything above that, the counter only decreases by -10.
The power of Elune was not meant to be held on forever and attempting to do so can destroy a person. Thus every YEAR a player holds on to the Night Warrior power, the counter gains an unremovable +10. This is the reason for a CTS so the staff can keep track to see how long a player has had the Night Warrior power.
Players can remove the Night Warrior’s power from themselves at any time. They must travel to Balsharan and release the power back into the Moonwell and to Elune. This can be an event or players can just say it happened. Giving up the Night Warrior’s Power makes a player unable to EVER get it again.
Players who hold to the Night Warrior’s power without falling into it will gain a special ability when the Night Warrior’s story concludes in Shadowlands(2031). After Shadowlands itself the Night Warrior transformation will no longer be possible. Players will be able to hold on to it though the power will vanish entirely by the time of end of Dragonflight if any player that has it that’s still alive.
Players who undergo the Night Warrior transformation and change back have a choice. They can keep the black eyes, revert back to normal, or only have the eyes activated at Night or when fighting. While under the effects of the Night Warrior, the character’s eyes MUST be black
