Hey guys,
It's been brought to our attention on many different occasions over the past few months that the lines between OOC and IC are becoming increasingly blurred in some cases. This has become a widespread enough issue on the server that it deserves to be addressed in a general sense, but also to be talked about more in-depth. While there is no written rule to address this issue, in particular, our position is such:
OOC and IC are two separate dimensions and generally speaking should not be mixed. Players should always be mindful of their OOC motivations when driving their characters forward in RP, and likewise be aware that actions and opinions expressed IC don't necessarily reflect on the player on an OOC level in any way, nor on their opinion of their fellow players. IC conflicts, disagreements and drama should not bleed into OOC and vice versa, as the players and their characters are separate things and should always be treated as such.
This does not, however, remove OOC responsibility from the players when it comes to communicating so every player involved is duly informed and addressed in the event that the RP could be detrimental to their character on an IC level, or is being driven to potentially sensitive territories. We place great value on communication in order to ensure that all participants of any ongoing RP are comfortable with what is going on, and to maintain a peaceful and friendly atmosphere of mutual understanding once the RP ends.
This is a general statement, of course, and most of it goes without saying. Because of the problems we've witnessed recently, however, we'd like to invite all community members who are able to attend to an in-game meeting of sorts where we'll discuss these issues in more detail. Please meet us in-game on <COLOR color="#009900"><s></s>Thursday (2nd of June), 3 PM Server Time (link to [url="http://w11.zetaboards.com/WoW_Freedom/calendar/event/53589/"><s></s>Calendar entry). The meeting won't last longer than a couple of hours so to not interrupt other planned events that day.
Bring your favourite character for the gathering and a good mood, and you'll receive instructions and a basic rundown for the meeting once you get there. All in attendance will also receive a [url="http://www.wowhead.com/item=20030/pet-rock"><s></s>[Pet Rock]. Why? Because <I><s></s>why not<e></e></I>, that's why.
(The meeting itself will be logged and the logs will be posted for public view after it is done, along with a public discussion thread for continued discussion and additional comments from those who are unable to attend. We realize this is on very short notice, but it couldn't be helped. If it goes well, we may run similar meetings in the future.)
