Hey guys and gals! Just a quick little thing the staff wanted to touch on regarding monks and fighting styles. We've had a couple questions and inquiries on personal monk styles and becoming a master/teacher for said personal monk styles.
At the moment, we have only been to one of the four temples in the main storyline (Temple of the Jade Serpent) and we think that in order to invent one's own style, one must learn/master the 4 base Pandaren styles. It'd be really awkward for someone to come up with their own "Turtle" style only to later learn that the actual Ox style is the same thing. Mastering control over Chi is another important part of someone wanting to develop and teach their own style, something that many Monks have not gotten to yet.
The Pandaren styles are pretty all encompassing as well, it would be hard to think of something that isn't covered in one of the 4 styles. We aren't against players having their Monks specialize in different personal styles of the 4 (ex. A Tiger Monk that focuses on countering or a more aggressive styled Ox style monk.) We just don't think any character, at the moment, would have the experience and knowledge to create a completely new style and/or teach others that style.
As always, if you think you have a -really- good case, make a post in Contact the Staff™
