The Gift of N’zoth is a wonderful and terrible thing. When gained, the person who receives it can see others who share the Gift, can both speak and understand Shath'Yar, can begin using Shadow and Void magics, and hear the whispers more clearly to empower themselves.

N’zoth sees you as special, a place in his dream made real.

Gaining the Gift

The Gift can be gained one of two ways. The first is by making a deal with N’zoth in an hour of desperation or in need of power. These happen randomly and have been happening for some time. But now N’zoth is expanding his power base and has begun bargaining with others outside of the Void or Shadow Touched.

The second way is to have it forced upon you, namely during The Twist The Knife event. It can happen again but to have it happen, you must CTS a custom event for yourself. You can actively and secretly refuse to get purged as well, with none of the healers being with wiser…

The Power of the Deep

The Gift can grant great and terrible power to those that hold on to it. But like all power this comes at a cost. N’zoth did not grant you this power to defeat him after all. Players who have the Gift can empower themselves with Shadow magic to  enhance their spells or bodies. During their turn or when targeted by a counter attack, threshold roll or group counter, players can call upon the power of the Gift. They gain a +10 to all counters, group counters and threshold rolls FOR THE REST OF THE EVENT. This power also has no cooldown and can be used repeatedly once per player turn, counter attack, group counter, or threshold roll.

Additionally once per encounter a player can also attempt to use the whispers to try and see into the future, gaining advantage for the rest of the encounter it used on. This power can be activated on a player turn or right before a player rolls for a counter attack, threshold roll or group counter.

These bonuses fade at the end of each event but the cost of it does not. A player who has the Gift must put a 0/100 counter in their TRP. Every time they use The Gift, they must add +10 to that counter, FOR EITHER EFFECT. The counter represents how strong a player’s passive power is(normal emotes and etc) but also how close they are to becoming completely enthralled by N’zoth’s power. A player who reaches 100/100, BECOMES A THRALL TO THE OLD GOD AND CANNOT BE SAVED UNLESS N’ZOTH IS KILLED. They dedicate their life to N’zoth and to bringing about his reality, becoming a villain character in the process. If they are still around, if N'zoth ever dies, they may return to their senses but will be permanently damaged by the experience.

The counter does NOT reset after every event. Instead the counter resets every Wednesday at 12 am, meaning those that hold the Gift must bear that power and its risks for days. The counter hits 0 if a player only has up to 20/100 but anything above that, the counter only decreases by -10.

Similarly to the Night Warrior, the counter for the Gift will go up by itself regardless if the gift is used or not. However, instead of yearly, it will rise twice during the story.

January 1st, 2027: The counter to goes up to 10/100

April 2027, after Eternal Palace: The counter goes up to 15/100

January 1st 2028: The counter goes up to 20/100

This counter will play a role in patch 8.3 with both Visions of N’zoth and the final Raid.

Those who manage to hold on to the power of the Gift will gain a special ability at the end of the expansion.

Only those with the Gift can actually see it on others. To everyone else they look like normal people. Not even a Demo Hunter’s gaze can spot it. THis will change in 8.3

Interactions with Classes and Races

The Gift works mostly the same across all classes and races save for a few exceptions.

Lightforged Draenei: They can still be infected/blessed by the Gift but will  have to roll if present at the event where it is forced upon the champions. A successful player roll will cause a rebound of Light, knocking the player out but preventing the gift from infecting them. Lightforge who have the gift feel their connection to the Light damaged. The longer they keep it, the more they lose connection with the Light. If they are lost, they may turn into something akin to the Void warped broken on Argus.

Paladins/Light Users: Like Lightforged Draenei, Paladins/Light Users can roll to stop the gift from blessing them. A successful roll  them out prevents the gift from taking root. However, if they are blessed, their connection to the Light will start to dim. While it will return if the gift is removed quickly, keeping the gift will damage their connection over time. If they keep it for too long they may find it impossible to call upon it as they did once before and may be seen as tainted by other beings of the Light, even if the gift is removed/ N’zoth is killed.

Night Warrior: Night Warriors are filled with Elune’s rage and thus cannot be granted the Gift. However, N’zoth will still try. A roll will be triggered and winning unlocks a special vision.

Blood Elves: The Gift DOES NOT automatically turns Blood Elves into Void elves. However, a player can make a CTS to use to turn themselves into one in their own custom storyline. THIS CANNOT BE USED TO MAKE A HORDE LOYAL VOID ELF. Due to the current war and the threat against the Sunwell, Void Elves will be rejected by Blood Elf society and cast out, even if it wasn’t their fault.
