So, I was outfitting my characters, and I was thinking, "Goodness gracious! This is hard as fu-- heck!" I was also thinking, "Why do we even need this many vendors?" The second thought actually lead to something and so here I am.

I couldn't help but notice that the armour vendors and what have you actually hold practically ALL of the items in the entire game. So, really, why not get rid of the vendors who are really hard to find items on and, instead, grant users the additem command (and the lookup item one as well, perhaps)? I imagine there's some reason we don't yet have this, but I've found it incredibly difficult to outfit characters when you only have the iLevel to go off of...
As someone who had used this system for a per a year now I would be sad and disappointed if all the vendors were removed however I am In, if it's possible depending on the devs, Full support of add item and the vendors
I'm content with having both; There's no reason not to cater to both sides!

And hey, broken item that can be abused? Disable it. They're rare and similar have been fixed in the past, but they'll be found regardless of a command or not.

There is literally no downside to this at all.

Edit: I'd love to be able to just take item ID's from my Mogit and just add the items, opposed to searching through vendors. I'm all in favour of this suggestion!
Vendors are ordered in item level - it is very simple to find the item you need.

However, a developer said that he will probably add the ability to .additem with items that are already in the mall vendors, though that this would be done in MoP.
We've tried to align the vendors to be as easy to manage as possible. Whereas we understand it can initially be confusing, adding the .additem command comes with it's own set of issues. For example, there are many broken items in the game, and items we simply don't want players to have.

There are however plans to implement the .additem command only including the available vendor items in the upcoming MoP update, which will hopefully eliminate your issue.

Currently we would recommend you look up the item you'd intend to add to yourself via wowpedia or wowhead and look at the item level, then in the mall browse through the vendors and use the item level as a guideline to locate it.

To make things easier in our current state, I'd like to refer you to some helpful websites;

Just going to state it for the sake of clarity.

The .add item command was not added in this version of the patch due to reasons of bugged items and crashy scripts.

We will likely be adding the .add command later on in MoP after it launches, topics like this have been made before asking the same question I would only suggest you maybe go back and read those.

As I said before take a look at older topics, but it can be a pain to sort out a broken item when you need to restart the server to get rid of it, its not easy or very fun for the people involved over all, we work on this server for free with love and care for the community and at the time we took the server down the path of least resistance in development but it also left us without some features that some players wanted.
Hello there!

Item adding command will be added in MoP release as a separate command due to fact that it needs separate filtered table of items to exclude some unstable / abusable items:

<I><s></s>.freedom additem $p1<e></e></I>: Add item through its EID (entry id) $p1 to your character's inventory. This command will only access items already available for the public mall.

It will also have corresponding <I><s></s>list <e></e></I>command, but that is to be documented later.

In mean time you can search the item online if you want and take a look at its item level. Mall vendors are currently ordered by item level, allowing you to skip through them quickly until you find the page/vendor which has the item level what you are looking for, afterwards, it is just a matter of taking a look at the individual items until the one you are looking for is found.
