Character(s): Nobiru (Draenei Shaman), Kris (Human Monk), other people have replicated this bug as well
What happened: Once a combat/cosmetic pet has been summoned, the only way to get rid of it is to summon another pet, or to completely relog.
Where: Mall, but replicated pretty much anywhere.
How: Summon a pet from the pet journal. There is no way to unsummon it.
