Been getting this error today.

Reapplying the Freedom essentials patch didn't work. Did the unchecking read-only thing. Currently trying to redownload the client, but BitComet keeps freezing. Is a new client needed for this error at all?

Generally CAS errors are an internal file problem, if you're sure you reapplied the patch correctly, and you've unchecked read only, the next thing to ask is if this is a clean install, by that I mean, are you using any patches/mods that don't come with the base client?

Nope, using only Freedom provided things. I had to redownload the client, and that seems to have fixed things, whatever it was.
